Limoux

Limoux is a small traditional market town on the River Aude about 19 kilometers from Carcassonne. In Limoux you can find all the services you need, and there is a good selection of restaurants locally. A centre for visiting the historical Cathar castles, the medieval Abbeys and circular villages of the region. It is easy to make daytrips to the mountains, the Mediterranean, Andorra and even Spain.

The town itself is famous for its Blanquette, some say the original champagne. The carnival starts in January and continues every weekend until Easter, a fascinating and colourful spectacle. It takes place in the main square, as does the Friday market pictured to the left. There are many concerts and events arranged throughout the year - a true taste of south of France.
